Dear President-elect TrumpPosted: November 10, 2016
Dear President-elect Trump,
I know you’ve always been an “upward redistribution” kind of guy; consequently, I want you to know I’ll be reminding you frequently during your occupation of the White House about Jesus and the traditional understanding of his message, specifically the following: “Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me,” Matthew 25:40. This means that—to the extent that your policies fail to protect individuals within marginalized groups, both here and abroad—you would present yourself to the close observer as a hypocrite, one who isn’t a real Christian but who uses Christian images and language to disguise his true profiteering, predatory nature.
My guess is that you’ll remain indifferent to reminders such as mine, since you’ve shown such obviously practiced facility for convincing people to ignore your history of media manipulation, predatory business practices, racist opportunism, utilitarian xenophobia, and hierarchical determination to keep women “in their place,” all based on life experiences acquired within a context of the most blatant United States class privilege.
Please surprise me and promote policies here at home that stop the punishment of those most vulnerable, that lead to relief of their suffering, and that suppress the attitudes of white supremacy permeating U.S. law enforcement. While you’re at it, if you find that practicing empathy is a refreshing change, let’s also have foreign policies that stop our military’s support for corporate appropriation of the resources of weaker countries, which would be a great relief to those most vulnerable in those countries.
As a rich guy, please consider implementing these recommendations, thereby giving yourself a better shot at admission to Paradise than that big boy of a camel trying to climb and squeeze through the eye of that needle.
